Clinical Massage
Clinical massage, also known as soft tissue therapy, draws on a range of techniques from sports massage, physiotherapy and osteopathy that work on the soft tissues of the body, to heal a vast range of musculoskeletal pain, injury and aches.
This treatment can help with issues such as back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, knee pain, heel and foot pain, strained muscles, aching joints, problems with balance and instability and chronic health conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia. This approach focuses on treating the muscles and connective tissues (fascia) of the body, and also works by stretching and mobilising joints in a gentle way. An appointment involves assessments to diagnose and understand the initial problem, treatment, then reassessment, to see what has improved. This allows us to track progress and check that you are getting better. The list of the issues this approach can help with is huge. Remedial exercise
I develop a plan of remedial movements, stretches and exercises to support your recovery and ensure that progress made during treatment is reinforced in your day to day life. I suggest realistic ways of fitting in these exercises into your week, so that getting - and staying - better is achievable
I use a combination of remedial exercise approaches: simple things such as taking the stairs or rotating in your chair when at work to keep your back moving. I show you exercises, muscle stretches and joint mobilisations to help you get moving in the most comfortable, stable and strong way. I can also suggest appropriate sporting activities that will reinforce your rehabilitation. There is no "silver bullet" exercise approach or gadget. Everyone is different and the best way to get people moving and feeling better is to develop a plan of useful and enjoyable exercises for that individual that they can realistically fit into their life. |
Rehabilitative yoga
The yoga I teach is based on scaravelli yoga. It's gentle and dynamic. You move in the way your body is designed to move, you don't stay in one position. This helps you to feel comfortable in a body that moves well, within your own personal capabilities.
I combine this yoga with more traditional rehabilitative exercises. I identify movement restrictions and teach you how to ease through them comfortably. You learn what you are doing that causes pain, stiffness or instability. You then learn how to move without these restrictions. This helps you to feel stronger, get rid of discomfort and prevent it from returning. Your muscles and joints work smoothly and you start to move more freely and comfortably, with a sense of greater strength and stability.

This yoga can help you to:
- Free up the spine, hips, shoulders and neck.
- Improve mobility and strength in the knees, ankles, feet and hands.
- Improve posture - find ease and comfort in how you sit and stand
- Rediscover and improve your balance, strength and confidence if you feel unstable as you get older, or after an operation or illness.
- Get rid of long-standing aches and pains, that often don't show up on a scan but cause you discomfort and stop you doing things you enjoy.
