About Viv Slater
In the past I've competed in sport at national level, commuted, sat in an office chair, had 2 children and then carried them around. As a result, like you, I've experienced various aches and pains, and sports injuries.
Having had several types of injury treatment over the years, I became interested in how the body works. This sparked my interest in becoming a musculoskeletal sports massage therapist. I've done this work for 10 years so I know many ways help you move well! When you come for an appointment, I listen attentively and carefully tailor treatment to you specifically. I know how frustrating it can be to be held back by injury, pain or restricted movement, whether in daily life or sport. During sports and clinical massage treatment, I explain to you what I am doing and why, to help you learn about and take control of your body. |
I provide a friendly, approachable service and give you achievable tools to get yourself better. I help you back to comfortable movement and good posture as efficiently as possible. You can read reviews about patient experiences here.
I've done the highest level of soft tissue therapy qualification in the UK (see below) so you can expect the best treatment in this field. I have also done many musculoskeletal and yoga training courses to learn additional techniques that I use to help you. As well as running a private clinic in Haddenham, I work in the NHS. I have been a Physiotherapy Assistant in the hydrotherapy pool and gym at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, and a Wellbeing Clinical Support Worker in cancer care at the Churchill Hospital. I am currently an NHS Health and Wellbeing Coach, helping people develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Working in the NHS gives me a good understanding of healthcare as a whole and keeps me up to date with training and recent medical developments. Due to my years of experience working in the NHS and privately, I can give you suggestions of what to do next, privately or within the NHS, if you can't work out what approach to take to resolve more complex or persistent musculoskeletal issues. |

Feedback from patients
Below is some feedback from patients. For independent reviews please see my google my business page.
"As an older person wanting to avoid any sports injuries, Viv has helped me prepare and recover well following my training runs and marathons. Viv's treatments are also helping me regain some of the suppleness in my back and neck I had when I was younger. The exercises Viv has suggested are definitely helping my back feel stronger and more flexible".
AK, 65, runner and swimmer
"I first visited Viv after sustaining a running injury. I had tried to 'run through' the injury but it had got worse over several months. After seeing Viv and following the exercises she recommended, the injury had gone within 2 weeks. Viv is dedicated, caring and professional. She really listens to what you say and works with you. I have continued to see Viv as she has helped me to deal with my fibromyalgia, when my muscles and joints are very painful. My sessions have not just helped me to continue running they have helped me to improve and I have more effective pain management now. I cannot recommend Viv highly enough".
LP, 37, runner/teacher.
"Thanks to Viv I've regained feeling and control in one of my legs that I hadn't had for years due to an old back injury. I've also obtained relief from plantar fasciitis, which gave me tender heels, so that walking was unsteady and painful. Not only did Viv relieve the immediate pain, but her encouragement and clear explanations gave me an understanding of how to help myself through exercise and proper movement. Physically I am now much less tense generally and I can't thank her enough for the body confidence and control she has instilled in me."
JH, 47, IT Consultant and lover of gardening
"I come out from a treatment with Viv feeling 2 inches taller. I find it easier now to sit and stand straighter".
SG, 55, Office Manager (now considerably taller!!!)
"Not only is Viv thorough, identifying the problem area quickly, she cures it quickly too. Also included is a relaxing and friendly service".
JC, 44, runner/flautist/mum
"Thanks Viv, until I sprinted up the stairs, I wouldn’t have believed that you could make such a difference. Amazing!"
RH, 80, retired and going strong (especially when running up the stairs)
