About Viv Slater

I'm fascinated in how the body moves, and in keeping your particular body moving well.

I've done this job for 15 years, alongside NHS roles in physiotherapy, cancer care health and wellbeing, and currently as an NHS Health Coach.

I have a unique blend of skills that help you move comfortably, well, and keep you as active as possible. I can use hands-on sports massage techinques, rehabilitative exercises, exercise planning and health coaching. People find that coming to see me for appointments is cost-effective. You get a lot out of each appointment, rather than having to go and see different therapists or trainers for each of these disciplines.

You can read reviews about patient experiences here.

When you come for an appointment, I listen carefully and tailor treatment to you specifically. I know how frustrating it can be to be held back by injury, pain, poor balance or restricted movement and mobility. I explain to you what I am doing and why, to help you learn about and take control of your body.

Qualifications and experience:
Sports Massage
Balance, strength & confidence
Return to Fitness after injury/surgery
Physical Activity Health Coaching

I've done the highest level of soft tissue therapy qualification in the UK so you can expect the best treatment in this field. I have also done many musculoskeletal training courses to learn additional techniques that I use to help you.

As well as running a private clinic in Thame, I'm an NHS Health and Wellbeing Coach, where I help people develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle, with a focus on balance, strength, and returning to fitness after injury.
I have been a Physiotherapy Assistant in the hydrotherapy pool and gym at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, and a Wellbeing Clinical Support Worker in cancer care at the Churchill Hospital. Working in the NHS gives me a good understanding of healthcare as a whole and keeps me up to date with recent medical developments.

Due to my years of experience working in the NHS and privately, I can give you suggestions of what to do next, privately or within the NHS, if you can't work out what approach to take to resolve more complex or persistent musculoskeletal issues.

Feedback from patients

"As an older person wanting to avoid any sports injuries, Viv has helped me prepare and recover well following my training runs and marathons. Viv's treatments are also helping me regain some of the suppleness in my back and neck I had when I was younger. The exercises Viv has suggested are definitely helping my back feel stronger and more flexible".

AK, 65, runner and swimmer

"I first visited Viv after sustaining a running injury. I had tried to 'run through' the injury but it had got worse over several months. After seeing Viv and following the exercises she recommended, the injury had gone within 2 weeks. Viv is dedicated, caring and professional. She really listens to what you say and works with you. I have continued to see Viv as she has helped me to deal with my fibromyalgia, when my muscles and joints are very painful. My sessions have not just helped me to continue running they have helped me to improve and I have more effective pain management now. I cannot recommend Viv highly enough".
LP, 37, runner/teacher.

"Thanks to Viv I've regained feeling and control in one of my legs that I hadn't had for years due to an old back injury. I've also obtained relief from plantar fasciitis, which gave me tender heels, so that walking was unsteady and painful. Not only did Viv relieve the immediate pain, but her encouragement and clear explanations gave me an understanding of how to help myself through exercise and proper movement. Physically I am now much less tense generally and I can't thank her enough for the body confidence and control she has instilled in me."
JH, 47, IT Consultant and lover of gardening

"I was ready to give up hcompetitive orienteering until I had a few appointments with Viv. She helped me regain my balance and leg strength in a way I didn't think would have been possible. I was surprised at how I was able to get back a steadiness on my feet and  a power in my legs that I thought was gone forever".
HP, 72, Retired, keen walker and orienteerer

"Not only is Viv thorough, identifying the problem area quickly, she gives a highly practical, easy-to-follow set of rehab and helps me fit it into my life, so it actually gets done. Also included is a relaxing and friendly service".
JC, 44, runner/triathlete

"Thanks Viv, until I sprinted up the stairs, I wouldn’t have believed that you could make such a difference. Amazing!"
RH, 80, retired and going strong
