A clear, concise poster that dispels myths about back pain
This helpful poster from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists dispels common myths about back pain. The information on scans is particularly helpful.
It is fine to come to a therapist on a regular basis for treatment for general back aches and pains to help keep you comfortable. If, however, you have an acute (intense, debilitating) episode of back pain, your therapist should give you the tools to get out of pain as soon as possible, in most cases requiring only one or a few appointments. We should help you to help yourself so that you get back to normal function quickly. Make sure that your therapist does not create reliance on them as the only person that can "fix" you.
Any appropriately qualified therapist will refer you back to your GP if we see symptoms that require further investigation.
